Recently through the National Lottery Open Days, tickets were able to visit lots of places for discounted rates or free! So naturally, I bought a lottery ticket (didn’t win) and off we went on a sunny Tuesday to our local National Trust property; Tyntesfield.
The NT website describes Tyntesfield as ‘An ornate Victorian Gothic Revival house with extensive garden and parkland.’
We’ve visited a few times, and at different times of the year. On this visit we spent most of our time in the Kitchen Garden. I can’t believe I’ve never been in this part of the garden before, it was wonderful. The below photos do it far more justice than me waffling.

In this area of the garden is also the historic Orangery, which was lovely and very grand.
We were so so lucky with the weather when we visited, the sunshine made the whole place sing. The glasshouses aren’t always open, so this was pure luck. The Orangery and much of the site is accessible too.
We also spent some time in the park, which was great, I loved the wooden snails and slugs for kids to climb on and the use of the cider crates! My three year old was obsessed with the tractor you could sit on.

We also took the doggy! She was allowed in the gardens and a certain part of the cafe, but she wasn’t allowed in the house. We had already decided we didn’t want to visit the house, as we had been at Christmas when the house was beautifully decorated.

A visit to any National Trust property would not be complete without a visit to the café and shop. Both are excellent (and quick big) and in the old cow sheds! There is also a smaller café in the Kitchen Garden with another lovely outdoor seating area. The chocolate cake I had was delicious.
If I were visiting for the first time, I would focus my visit on :
the Kitchen Garden and Orangery
The chapel (the stained glass windows are lovely)
The rose garden (time of year dependent)
Walking round the wonderful grounds, there’s three options of circular walks to choose from.
I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful.
