#SkipGate
I apologise in advance for this slightly scrappy update
My Dad has already said he doesn’t want to hear anything else about it !!
Our kitchen renovation is starting today! Which we are very excited and somewhat apprehensive about, mainly me that’s worried about how to cook anything. More on that in a minute.
A skip was due to be delivered on Thursday last week, ready for the start of the works today. I had organised a man and van (two very strong men and a van) to come and take out fridge freezer and dishwasher to my in-laws that morning, and left to collect my children from my parents in the middle of the day. I returned to this…

How on earth did they expect us to be able to access our property? They would have had to climb over the fence to take the hooks off that attach it to the lorry!!! I swore a lot, called our builder who was told they would be here first thing on Friday to sort it. In the meantime, my husband ripped his jumper on the post and I had to hold my daughter aloft, Lion King style, to get past the damn thing.
In a surprise to no one, they did not arrive first thing. After several (shirty on my end) phone calls, they came, couldn’t move it up the drive, refused to leave it on the road, and so took it away!
I was slightly worried about how they would managed ripping the kitchen out today- I needn’t have worried as a knock on my door at half 7 was another skip, promptly dropped on the road. Poor bloke wasn’t expecting me in my pjs, but then again, I wasn’t expecting him either!
Anyway, maybe I should listen to my Dad and move on (anyone who has read my posts for any length of time will know I rarely listen to Dad, and he is sometimes right).
We spent Sunday moving most of our kitchen belongings down to my parents, alongside some furniture. We’ve stored our sofa in our office in pieces (god love Ikea) and our upstairs is very full. We definitely need a huge clear out!
We managed to set up a little kitchen in our utility room, which I was delighted about! A borrowed fridge from my parents, the air fryer, a second hand induction hob from Vinted and it was a pretty good set up. I cooked in here over the weekend as the main fridge was gone and everything was in here for cooking.
My joy at having this has well and truly gone, as we’ve had to clear it out today, much earlier than I anticipated, so they can take the floor out tomorrow. I have to admit, I was pretty grumpy moving everything back out again.
So we don’t have any kitchen at all! Thank god my in-laws only live 15 mins away, we are going to use their kitchen for the next few days.
The kitchen and flooring was totally ripped out today! I’m amazed it only took one day to remove, it was so gross but no terrible surprises!

I couldn’t get over the light ! We’ve definitely made the right choice with the kitchen design, making the most of the light and keeping everything tall in the bottom right corner.
I’m excited to see how much can be done this week- first fix starts tomorrow.
The garden is starting to wake up, the ranunculus and sweet peas are growing well, the crocus are starting to bloom and it feels like spring is about to appear. I have much to do, lots of old foliage to cut back, more annuals to plant, but the above has taken up all my time.

Hopefully a more refined update to come next week!
